Aluminium offers you choice and unsurpassed quality
Aluminium as a material conducts heat, so our aluminium windows are fitted with a thermal break to prevent cold air getting into your home. In fact, when paired with double or triple glazing, aluminium windows are some of the most energy efficient windows you can install.

How long do aluminium windows last?
The lifespan of any window depends on a number of factors including climate, how well they were installed, general wear and tear, and maintenance. Aluminium windows are incredibly robust and with proper installation and maintenance can last for forty years or more before they need replacing.
Hoovering away dust and debris and wiping your frames clean with a damp cloth will both help to keep your aluminium windows looking great and expand their lifespan.
Where are aluminium windows used?
Traditionally, aluminium windows have been used in commercial properties or larger buildings like school and colleges because of their durability and longevity. They’re increasingly popular for both modern and period homes where they successfully replace heritage steel windows.
Aluminium windows give a lightweight look and feel to any interior by maximising the size of the panes of glass that can be used — perfect for framing a stunning view or letting natural light pour in. They require virtually no maintenance and will last for decades. However, they are more expensive than UPVC which can offer many of the same benefits for less.
What are the benefits of aluminium windows?
Aluminium windows are a great choice if you have a view you want to frame or you want to get as much natural light as possible into your home. Super light and extremely strong, aluminium can be made into slim profile windows that support larger panes of glass and are still easy to open and close.
Aluminium windows are strong and secure and require virtually no maintenance. They’re also a highly sustainable choice as aluminium is 100% recyclable. At Otter Windows, we’ll always recycle your old windows, whatever the material.
Are aluminium windows better than uPVC?
There are benefits to both materials. UPVC is a tough plastic that is highly insulating and can be finished to look like wood or in the colour of your choice. Combined with double or triple glazing they’re as energy efficient and secure as aluminium windows but at a more affordable price.
Aluminium windows are the aesthetic choice when you want to create a design statement with glass. While they are strong, long-lasting and fully recyclable, they are also more expensive than uPVC. Are aluminium windows energy efficient?
People still have the impression that metal frame windows are a poor choice because they’ll let the cold in. While that might once have been true, our professionally engineered aluminium windows use a thermal break to stop that from happening. We insert a piece of non-conductive metal between the inner and outer frame so cold and heat won’t transfer from outside and inside.
Paired with our highly efficient A+ rated double or triple glazing, your aluminium windows will keep your home warm and comfortable throughout the colder weather.
Do aluminium windows rust?
The short answer is no. Aluminium doesn’t rust but it does corrode. However, this process ends up coating the metal in aluminium oxide which is actually harder than the aluminium itself! This protective layer then prevents the rest of the metal from corroding. This process has very little impact on the look of your window and there’s no need to replace it.
With very little maintenance, your aluminium windows will last for decades to come. For more tips on keeping your windows in tip top shape, talk to our experts.
