Struggling with inefficient single glazing and massive heating bills? Now’s the time to upgrade to efficient double glazing to bring down your bills and put a stop to excess heat loss. Our bespoke double glazed windows combine efficiency with style, improving energy efficiency and reducing noise pollution so you can enjoy peace and quiet even if you live on a busy road.
Double glazing works by trapping argon gas between two separate panes of glass. The gas is heavier than air and acts as an effective insulator, preventing cold air outside transferring to your warm interior and bringing down the temperature. You’ll also see a significant reduction in condensation which can be a real problem with single glazed windows.
Our standard double glazing has excellent energy savings ratings, but opt for our Super Energy Efficient double or triple glazed windows for even greater savings on your energy bills. Double glazing is one of the best home improvements you can make, adding value, reducing your bills and lowering your environmental impact.
We all want to feel comfortable and secure in our homes which is why each double glazing unit is manufactured with high security hinges and thermally toughened glass for greater security. Double glass panels, thicker frames and our state of the art locking mechanisms all add up to make our windows highly secure.

Is it worth replacing double glazing?
If you only have single glazing then it’s definitely worth upgrading to double glazing for lower bills and greater security. But if you already have older style double glazing it may be worth having it replaced as seals fail and your windows can become less efficient over time.
If your double glazing is under 10 years old it may need repairing to perform at its best. At Otter Windows, our double glazing carries a written guarantee so we’ll repair your windows if they’re not performing at their best. For the highest thermal efficiency, talk to our experts about triple glazing.
Does double glazing reduce condensation?
If condensation is a problem in your home then you need to upgrade to double glazing. Condensation forms when warm air hits the cold glass and water droplets form — the gas filled cavity in your double glazed windows prevents that from happening. However cold it is outside, your windows should always feel warm to the touch with no condensation in sight.
If you have double glazing and you notice condensation starting to form, that could be a sign you need to repair or replace your windows as they’re not performing at their best.
What is double glazing?
The clue is in the name. Double glazing has two panes of glass, not one, and we fill the gap between them with argon. This gas is denser than air making it hard for cold air and soundwaves to pass through the barrier. It’s this thermal insulation that reduces your heating bills and keeps your interiors comfortable all year round.
If your heating bills are high, installing quality double glazing is a great way to improve the efficiency of your home. Talk to our experts today about the right windows for you.
What is the best gap for double glazing?
When you’re choosing your double glazing you’ll find a lot of information about the best size for the gap in your new windows. At Otter Windows, we believe a 20mm gap between the panes in a 28mm unit gives the best performance and this is offered as standard on all our windows. We also use argon gas to fill the gap because it’s denser and heavier than air and can reduce condensation and noise.
We care passionately about energy efficiency and the environment, so our windows are designed to give you the highest performance with the lowest environmental impact.
Does double glazing reduce noise?
Yes, it does. The argon gas in our double glazing is specially chosen for its ability to block out unwanted noise, so even if you live on a busy road you can enjoy peace and quiet in your own home.
The argon gas in our windows is denser and heavier than air and soundwaves find it difficult to move through it. The result is quieter interiors for you plus all the benefits of greater energy efficiency.
How long does double glazing last?
Properly maintained and looked after, your double glazed windows can last for 20-30 years. Our windows are rated A+ for energy efficiency and use highly efficient argon gas in the gap between the panes for superior performance. We ensure that all our double glazed windows are professionally installed and backed with a 10-year written guarantee for peace of mind
If you see increased levels of condensation or the inner panes of your double glazed windows are cold to the touch, it could be time for replacement windows. Drop into our showroom or contact us to find the best windows for your home.
