Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most secure type of front door?
Front door security is a combination of two elements — the right materials and a multi-point locking system. Timber and composite doors have the strength and durability to withstand anything, and we make sure all our doors are fitted with a locking system that meets police-led guidelines for your peace of mind.
Is a new front door a good investment?
A new front door makes a great first impression, giving your home instant kerb appeal thanks to our range of colours and finishes. But a front door can add value in other ways by protecting your home from bad weather and increasing security. By creating a secure seal between your home and the outside world, a solid front door can also lower your energy bills.
A new door is a good investment when you’re looking to increase resale value and will keep you safe, secure and comfortable for years to come.
How do I protect my doors from burglars?
Fitting a strong and solid front door with a robust triple locking mechanism is one of the best ways to deter burglars, but there are some other tips that can help you protect your door.
A security camera, real or fake, and a security light are both effective deterrents. Leave your lights on timers when you go away, and make sure you leave any high-value items out of sight. That way, your home will be less inviting to burglars, and your door will be protected.
Do I need a fire door?
Whether or not you need a fire door will depend on the layout of your home. Current fire regulations require you to install a fire door that separates the stairwell and every habitable room if your home is over two stories high.
Are front doors thermally efficient?
That can depend on the type of material used to manufacture your door. Since 2010, composite doors have been required to have a U-rating (heat loss rating) of no more than 1.8W/m2k, so look for a door with as low a rating as possible to ensure it’s thermally efficient. Otherwise, look for an A+ energy-rated door to keep out the cold and ensure your home stays snug throughout the winter months.
A high-quality Otter Windows door can reduce your energy bills and keep your home warm and peaceful.

A no-nonsense approach, I didn’t get all the spill talk about discounts and offers at the moment. It’s just a really good quote given at the time. No waste of time phone calls was given the lead time of 12 weeks, which suited us perfectly. Easy to pay the instalments on my phone. The day of installation was very efficient, which was done by Sid.

Superb after-sales service. Had porch and front doors installed a few years ago, after contacting Otter Windows, John Capon a man all knowing in this field, promptly arrived and corrected both problems in a true professional manner. I can not rate this company high enough and have recommended them many times.

Very positive.
Debbie was really helpful in keeping us informed throughout the process. On the day, the fitter was very professional and carried out the work to a very high standard.

I was particularly happy with the rear or back door, which I asked to be a barn door. The engineer was honest and gave me proper advice, so I ended up with a split/tilt/open barn door, which far exceeded my expectations.
All work was carried out to a professional finish, and the installer was a very pleasant chap who cleaned up behind himself and left the place clean and tidy.
