Common questions

What is a casement window?

This style of window is the most traditional and suits most housing styles. Casement windows are hinged at the side or sometimes at the top, when they’re known as awning casements. Fitted either singly or in pairs, casement windows swing outwards maximising the amount of light and air.

Awning casement windows are a good choice in a wet climate as they block out the rain. Hopper windows which hinge at the bottom are perfect if you’re fitting windows in a basement. A flush casement window is a streamlined style where the window fits snug with the frame giving a contemporary look.

What's the difference between a casement and a picture window?

The most obvious difference between a casement and picture window is the size of the panes. Picture windows have fewer or a single pane and are designed to maximise light and frame a gorgeous panoramic view.

Casement windows are typically made up of a number of smaller panes but they can be swung open to make the most of the circulation of air and natural light. Picture windows are fixed and not designed to be opened.

How much do casement windows cost?

The price of any windows depends on a number of factors including the quality of the materials used, the work needed to fit the window and the length of time necessary to fit the windows in place. That means the price of your casement windows can vary widely. For example, a straight like-for-like replacement will cost less than fitting an entirely new set of casement windows throughout the house.

UPVC is the most affordable option for casement windows, with contemporary aluminium and more traditional timber both costing more. We can provide you with a free no obligation quote if you’re considering this window style for your home.

Are casement windows more energy efficient?

One of the big benefits of casement windows is the airtight seal they create when closed tight shut. This helps to minimise draughts meaning that warm air doesn’t escape and cold air can’t get in. This forms a natural seal that insulates your home and means you’ll spend less on your energy bills without having to turn down your thermostat.

For even greater energy efficiency, opt for double or triple glazed casement windows. Not only will you enjoy lower energy bills, but your windows will help to block noise from outside — making double or triple glazed casement windows a sound investment.

Are casement windows safe?

All our casement windows are covered by the UK police-led design initiative. This gives you the peace of mind of knowing that your casement windows are designed to keep you and your family safe and secure all year round.

Casement windows are very difficult to break into from the outside thanks to their frame mounted hook shaped locks which are hard to pry open. Multi locking systems add another layer of security.

Are casement windows worth it?

There are plenty of benefits to fitting casement windows — for you and your home. These beautiful windows are not only one of the best ways to let light and air into your home but they’re also brilliant at creating a tight insulated seal that keeps warm air trapped inside. This compression seal technology leads to lower energy bills and a smaller carbon footprint for your home.

Casement windows are also easy to operate with one hand or via a crank system, making them an ideal choice if you have a disability or limited mobility.

Energy saving is incredibly important and so is keeping your fuel bills down. We are continuously looking for ways to make our homes energy efficient and one way is to choose new PVCu windows and doors. Not only will they help to keep your home warmer, they will reduce your energy loss.

Don’t just take our word for it!

Our suppliers conform to strictly controlled and independently monitored Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, to ensure that everything is done correctly and according to best practise.

Our windows are tested independently by British Standards for security, weather tightness and strength performance. This means that periodically, we have to send them to independent test houses, in order to be tested to destruction.
